The photo above is the Patio de las Doncellas in the Alcázar (Palace) of Seville. In the photo below is the Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold) overlooking the waters of the Guadalquivir River. It dates from the beginning of the 13th century to control passage on the river and was originally joined by a heavy chain to a similar tower on the opposite bank of the river. In ancient times it was covered in gilded tiles and thus the name Tower of Gold.
